Student Placement

Nursing Student Clinical Placement

Thank you for your interest and consideration for placement of your nursing students at UCLA Health. UCLA Health provides a full spectrum of pediatric and adult care services including primary care and advanced specialty care.  Here your students will be surrounded by, and working with some of the profession's most accomplished individuals.  People who can help students learn the challenges in advancements in treatment, changes in health care delivery systems, new technologies, and increasing patient acuity.  The UCLA Health System's hospitals in Westwood and Santa Monica was named to U.S. News and World Report's Best Hospitals 2014-15 Honor Roll. We are now tied for #3 in the nation according to US New and World Report and have leaped 48 places among academic medical centers in the University Health Care Consortium.

Affiliation Agreements

All student training (for schools of nursing) between UCLA Health Sciences and another entity require an affiliation agreement.  For access to templates please go to the following website  http://legal.uclahealth.org/body.cfm?id=43.  Please submit your completed templates, questions, and concerns directly to JMPhillips@mednet.ucla.edu.

UCLA Placement Guidelines - Making A Request

The Department of Nursing Practice, Research, and Education (NRE) at UCLA coordinates student placement within UCLA Health (inclusive of all hospitals).  To ensure a consistent process for all requesting schools please see the flow sheet links below to guide you through the steps to make a cohort request, preceptor request, and/or observation request.  All requests must be done by schools.

Deadlines for Placement

Due to the high number of requests UCLA receives for each placement cycle, following all the mandatory and required steps will maximize your potential for success.  Cohort deadlines are aligned with the CCPS system (http://ccps.losangelesnrc.org/).

  • Spring 2017 (Mid March-May) - Requests opened January 3, 2017 and were due by January 23, 2017 - NOW CLOSED
  • Summer 2017 (June-August) - Requests open April 3, 2017 and are due by April 24, 2017
  • Fall 2017 (Sept-Dec) - Requests open June 1, 2017 and are due by June 22, 2017
  • Winter 2018 (January-March) - Requests open January 3, 2018 and are due by January 24, 2018
  • Spring 2018 Mid March-May) - TBD
  • Summer 2018 (June-August) - TBD
  • Fall 2018 (Sept-Dec) - TBD

Placement assignments are determined by availability of preceptors needed to meet course objectives and adherence to our student placement process and deadlines.  We kindly ask that students and/or instructors do not approach staff at UCLA to be potential preceptors and/or for site securement for cohorts or observations.  Placement is highly competitive and we want to ensure a fair process for all the requests we receive at UCLA Health.
