Course Description:

The improving patient outcomes RN class (IPORN) is a mandatory class designed to educate RNs on two important topics for patient care during hospitalization.  The skin care portion of the class will cover current skin care and pressure ulcer prevention guidelines and standards. The last hour will focus on fall prevention strategies and nursing guidelines for patient safety.

Course Pre-work for RNs:

The NDNQI Pressure Ulcer (4 modules), course pre-work, is strongly recommended for all RNs to complete, but is not required to attend the class.

Nurses will be awarded 2 contact hours for completing the NDNQI Ulcer Trainings and may use continuing education time (if available).  Please submit your 4 NDNQI certificates of completion to your UD for verification and payroll purposes.

Continuing Education Contact Hours: 

Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider number 12511 for 5 contact hours. 

UCLA Health is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation. Nurses will be awarded 4.75 ANCC contact hours for participation in this activity. 

Please allow ample time for traffic and parking.  The course will begin promptly at the designated start time.  No partial CE Credit given.

Improving Patient Outcomes for CCPs

Annual skin care/pressure ulcer prevention class this three-hour mandatory class for clinical care partner (CCP). The class is designed to educate CCPs regarding current skin care, pressure ulcer prevention, and fall prevention guidelines and standards. The ultimate goal is to improve patient care. It is a dynamic class that includes big and small group discussions and learning exercises.

Skin Care / Pressure Ulcer Prevention:

  • Describe the role of clinical care partner (CCP) in promoting patient safety through pressure ulcer prevention / treatment
  • Discuss the importance of pressure ulcer prevention in an acute care setting
  • Incorporate evidence-based pressure ulcer prevention / treatment modalities in patient care
  • Demonstrate basic ostomy care

Fall Prevention:

  • Identify a patient fall risk in clinical practice
  • Compare and contrast effective fall prevention vs ineffective measures
  • Design a comprehensive patient fall prevention strategy during group discussion
