Level II Care for the Teen/Young Adult Oncology Patient

Description:
This course is designed for oncology nurses seeking increased knowledge to be able to meet the unique needs of the Teen/Young Adult oncology population. Topics will include end of life, communication, and sexuality and fertility in the Teen/Young Adult oncology population.

Course Objectives:

  • Stress importance in interdisciplinary collaboration amongst team members to maximize coordination, contribution for decision-making and prevent groupthink.
  • Identify assessment components and barriers to adequate pain and symptom management and discuss interventions that can prevent or diminish symptoms.
  • Integrate self-care assessment and strategies into the health care provider's regular routine in order to sustain capacity to care for others.
  • Discuss the impact of cancer on sexuality on the Teen and Young Adult population.
  • Discuss foundational aspects of male and female fertility and special consideration regarding the pediatric population.

Contact Hours:
Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider Number 12511 for 8 contact hours.
Nurses will be awarded 7 ANCC contact hours for participation in the program.
UCLA Health is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.
