Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Level I Class

Description:
This class is an introductory course for nurses seeking increased knowledge on pediatric hematologic
and oncologic disease processes and the specialized care these patients require.

Objectives: 

  1.  Learners will have a basic understanding of disease processes of common pediatric malignancies, such as leukemia, lymphoma, neuroblastoma, CNS     tumors, and pediatric solid tumors.
  2.  Learners will have a basic understanding of indication for hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT), conditioning, and post-HSCT care and monitoring.
  3.  Learners will have a basic understanding of common pediatric hematologic disease processes.
  4.  Learners will be able to identify common oncologic emergencies and describe the care and monitoring of the patient experiencing an oncologic emergency.

Contact Hours:
Nurses will be awarded 7.5 ANCC contact hours for participation in this program.
UCLA Health is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses
Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.
Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider Number 12511 for 9
contact hours.
