UCLA Department of Nursing

Emergency Department

Between the Level I Trauma Center at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center and the new Nethercutt Emergency Department at Santa-Monica UCLA Medical Center and Orthopaedic Hospital, we handle an extraordinary number of patient visits each year. The Nethercutt Emergency Department at Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center and Orthopaedic Hospital is a 22-bed community and teaching facility that provides quality care to a diverse pediatric and adult population. Also serving a critical community need is our highly-regarded Rape Treatment Center. Because the UCLA Medical Center is a regional referral center for neurosurgical cases and organ transplants, our ER nurses are exposed to more unique and complex clinical situations. Additionally, we offer customized Emergency Department training program for new grads and non-ER nurses. Every nurse has the advantage of being mentored by extremely experienced and knowledgeable nurses to ensure success.

The ED provides a variety of complex emergent procedures and basic emergency care for various types of medical/surgical problems including chronic medical problems and minor injuries and illnesses. The ED is a Pediatric Trauma Center (PTC), Certified Stroke Center, Pediatric Medical Center (PMC), and ST Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI) Receiving Center (SRC) by the County of Los Angeles. The RR-UCLA ED also houses a Paramedic Base Station which provides not only Mobile Intensive Care Nurse (MICN) radio coverage for approximately 1200 contacts per month, but also oversees quality of care provided by emergency medical personnel.
